It is the season at Shepherd's Haven. Actually, it is the season all year long, since we work diligently preparing our ornaments and crosses for the Christmas rush. Each cross is cut by hand, fired to bisque, decorated and then fired again to become beautiful. Our crosses are brightly colored and look magnificent on a beautiful Christmas tree. As we create them, we think about the cross that inspires us. It was not beautiful or brightly colored. It was roughhewn and full of splinters. But the beauty is not in the material, but in its purpose. It held our Saviour who shed His redeeming blood to cover our sins.
As you look at our crosses this year, remember that the hands that made them love their Saviour. They see much more clearly than I the magnificent love He gives to us. These amazing men and women put a lot of love into each cross. May that love spread as you give them to others.
As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.
